Following the disappointing fall-through of the plans for a school at Meersbrook Hall, a new working group has formed to refresh plans for the Hall and see what direction it can take next.

In the short term, this means an effort to breathe new life into the building, clean it up for use, running events to engage the wider community and raise awareness. In the medium to long term, it means another attempt to secure the future of Meersbrook Hall in partnership with the Council and the community.

  •  A number of the group were given an initial tour of the building by the facilities management team and were encouraged by the state of the building. Photos from this visit are available here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qPUqCHteKSDrc1Rz7
  •  The council is prepared to set up an access license to use the building. They have asked for a list of the spaces that will be used and the different activities that might be organised, for which health and safety assessments will be needed.

Officer Roles

At the meeting on the 21st there will be discussion of how the refreshed organisation will work and what officers and roles might be needed as part of the official structure of FoMH.

The officer roles we are required to have are Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. FoMH have had in the past a Heritage Lead, an IT Lead and a Communications Lead. There may be the need for other officer roles e.g. Fundraising, and Building Management.

So far in the working group there are subgroups taking action on:

  • building management and health and safety,
  • publicity and communication, and
  • building clean-up.

Could you be an officer?

Please read the previous role descriptions in this document:Election of Management Committee.pdf and the terms of reference of the management committee here:Terms of Reference – Management Committee.odt.pdf

Please read through and consider if you may be willing to be an officer of any sort and on the management committee – think about it, listen to how the roles might be defined on the meeting on the 21st.

You may prefer to get involved via working groups and activities – that is also invaluable.

Events and Activities in the Hall

At the meeting there will be a discussion of upcoming and planned/potential events, including (so far) clean up sessions, a pop-up campaign desk and heritage open day tours.

So please have a think about any other activities/action days you might like to run or help to run in the spaces in the short term or medium term. Things that would raise awareness, engagement, show the potential of the building and/or highlight its heritage.
